Topshop, the London-based clothing retailer, opened its largest location in Toronto on October 4th.
With only one other store in Yorkdale, two-floor flagship store opened inside The Bay, occupying its second and third floors. Topman, the men's collection, is featured on the bottom floor, and Topshop, the women's line, is on the larger floor upstairs. Advertisements flooded Queen Street and The Bay's store windows, and Twitter went crazy with excitement.
The unveiling featured Topshop's winter 2012/2013 collection. The store, almost in its entirety, is embellished with many studs, animal prints, army attire, crosses, and dark coloured fabrics. Men and women alike ran frantically through the store searching for the best deals, reaching into their appropriately complementary bags to become a part of the event. Salespeople walked around with iPads bearing a chance to win an $1000 spree, DJs blastsd the most upbeat hipster music possible from the speakers, and photographers stood as shoppers posed to be snapped in their newly purchased gear.
Shoppers on the first day received a complimentary gift and tote bag, and students will continue to receive varying discounts at Topshop, which attracts a fairly young audience.
The collection so far has received positive feedback, and downtown Torontonians seem to be pleased with the addition. It seemed more people were carrying around Topshop totes than purses.
