As the Toronto International Film Festival comes to a close and Toronto returns to its relatively celebrity-free hustle and bustle, its time to talk about what every fashionable, rich-in-her-dreams girl is talking about. And no, its not finding a Toronto Maple Leaf husband now that the NHL lockout is official. Of course, it’s the best dressed celebrities of the 2012 festival. From long and lacy dresses to sequins and florals, TIFF 2012 had it all.
RYAN GOSLING
I had to include the pride of the Greater Toronto Area. Gosling, wearing a dark brown Gucci suit with orange pinstripes, came as more than just Eva Mendes’ arm candy. While promoting his film, The Place Beyond the Pines, Gosling chose to button up his crisp white shirt to the top, but not to wear a tie. A small fashion statement, a pretty face and a well-cut, perfectly fitted suit go a long way.

EMILY BLUNT (AND JOHN KRASINSKI)
Forgive my slight bias and undying love of John Krasinski (derived from his cheeky character on The Office), but he needed to be included in this picture despite a run-of-the-mill ensemble. Who really steals the show is his lovely wife, Emily Blunt, sporting trendy ombre hair, and a bandage-style Roland Mouret dress. Neutral shoes complete the eye-catching, form-fitting look at the Looper premiere.

EMMA WATSON
The young fashion icon Watson payed homage to Canada in a floral-print Erdem mini dress at the premiere of her highly anticipated film The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The interesting print and cut highlight Watson’s highly celebrated, quirky sense of style, and complement her deep red/purple lips. The outfit is completed by simple, elegant accessories.

MARION COTILLARD
The forever-classy Cotillard promoted her latest film, Rust and Bone (which is already included in Oscar talks) in head-to-toe Christian Dior (very French of her). She showed off her curves in a tweed, over-the-knee dress, and completed her simply elegant look with cobalt and gold pumps and gold bracelets.

ZHI ZHANG
The Dangerous Liasons star took a fashion risk with a flowy, grecian style dress that showed a lot of skin but also had a big, tough neckline. Zhang pulled off the show-stopping Marc Bouwer gown exceptionally well, pairing it with minimal accessories and pulling off a classy, statement look.

GEMMA ARTERTON
British beauty Arterton shone in a classic, lingerie-esque tank and a long, black maxi skirt with detailing at the waist. Both of her pieces were designed by Antonio Berardi, and highlighted a vampire-done-right deep purple lip, newly auburn hair, and simplistic accessories.

GRETA GERWIG
At the Frances Ha premiere, Gerwig wore an interesting (in the best possible way) Jason Wu dress, with a whimsical hemline and basic colour-blocking. Her red and gold clutch and her light red lipstick added a small pop of colour. The red was enough to make a statement, but not enough to distract from the beauty of the dress.

VANESSA HUDGENS
One of the more casual-chic outfits of the festival, Vanessa Hudgens’ Alice By Temperley London lace jumpsuit stood out for a number of reasons. Firstly, the fit of the jumpsuit seemed like it was made for Hudgens. The lace detail and crossover neckline also added a layer of interest to the Spring Breakers star’s outfit. Hudgens was not to be outdone by a collection of gowns.

KATE HUDSON
This Alexander McQueen show-stopper was widely talked about as the best outfit of the festival before it even ended! Hudson graced the premiere of her film The Reluctant Fundamentalist in a slim-fitting gown with wide shoulders, a stunning chest sequin detail, and a sky-high slit that made Hudson’s legs look miles long. Her white accessories and simple hairstyle did not detract from the breathtaking gown, but added just the right amount of detail.

ASHLEY BENSON
Last, but not least, Ashley Benson’s Dolce&Gabbana sequined number closes out my best-dressed celebrity list for the Toronto International Film Festival. Also promoting Spring Breakers, Benson chose a figure-flattering long dress with a black bodice and gold sequined skirt. Her makeup is equally glamourous, perfectly tying together the beautiful blonde’s look.
